EcoSmart Electricians is a division of NECA (National Electrical and Communications Association) which manages the certification of electricians throughout Australia. NECA certified EcoSmart Electricians are qualified Electricians and Contractors trained in energy efficient products and practices. This certification enables them to advise residential, commercial and industrial customers on the best products, technology and installations for achieving energy efficiency.
Friday Media were engaged as a development partner by Yoke Design www.yokedesign.com.au to develop an online platform. This platform serves as a central information hub for:
- Consumers seeking information about energy efficient products and services, or looking to reduce energy consumption and electricity bills
- EcoSmart Electricians and Contractors looking for information on the EcoSmart programme, accreditation, training, latest news and product information
- Supporters and other stakeholder groups including government, industry associations and green groups
The main objectives of the website were to:
- Provide comprehensive industry and product information to three main stakeholder groups Consumer, EcoSmart Electricians and Supporters
- Allow the EcoSmart Electrician administrator to manage all aspects of the website via a secure administration area
- Inform non certified electricians of training courses and allow them to review availability and register online
- Provide a easy to use search tool that would allow consumers to locate their nearest EcoSmart Electrician
- Provide a highly interactive user experience for all visitors
The biggest challenge of this website was to understand the client’s objectives and to help the client translate these objectives into the website. The final website contained a variety of features including:
- Search by postcode using geo-locating to determine the closest EcoSmart Electrician based on a radial search
- A secure EcoSmart Electrician and Supporter areas with area-specific content and news articles
- A robust and flexible content management system allowing EcoSmart Electrician administrators to manage the content throughout the different areas of the website
- Training course facility allowing electricians to search for and book training courses
- Product search facility allowing both general public and EcoSmart Electricians to search and review energy efficient products
- Animated sponsor logos allowing the administrator to add supporters
